FAQs

What is asbestos and where is it typically found?

Asbestos, a naturally-occurring fibrous material mineral was used quite commonly used in the UK and banned eventually in 1999 – from jiffy bags, mattresses, pipe lagging, floor tiles, textured ceilings to cement water tanks.

Asbestos isn’t dangerous unless it becomes disturbed or airborne, where it can easily be inhaled through the lungs. This has resulted in many deaths such as Asbestosis and Mesothelioma.

The inherent risks became more well-known after the 1960’s and 70’s and by 1999, the UK had banned all types of asbestos – as a result, constructions built before 2000 require an asbestos survey and subsequently, a safe removal.
